California State Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) Meeting Minutes - August

Welcome and State Conservationist's Remarks: Ed Burton, NRCS State
Conservationist, opened the meeting at 9:20 a.m. by welcoming all the
participants. Mr. Burton gave some background on the STAC, which is to provide
input on technical issues and conservation programs, and to make recommendations
on resource priorities and special funding initiatives. Although the committee
is advisory in nature, NRCS will strongly consider the recommendations of the
group when making decisions on conservation programs and technical issues. Mr.
Burton also emphasized that, even though rules had not yet been promulgated for
many of the conservation programs, we need to be proactive in addressing
California's resource priorities so that we're ready when funding opportunities
become available in 2009.
