Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan (CNMP) - Manure Management Planner (MMP) Tool

Last Modified: 11/23/2009 10:53 AM

The Manure Management Planner (MMP) tool is used as part of the CNMP to prepare a strategic farm-wide nutrient application plan that considers, among other things:

  • On-site manure production, import, and export
  • Available cropland and cropping patterns
  • Fertilizer used and nitrogen provided from irrigation water
  • Manure application methods and timing
  • Manure storage
  • Manure nutrient content
  • Soil samples

Additional information on MMP is available at (a) the local NRCS Field Office, (b) from Aziz Rahman, NRCS Dairy Team leader located in Fresno, CA, or (c) the National Water Management Center website on the MMP Tool.

California CNMP format when using MMP

If you encounter problems with the files provided on this page, please contact the Webmaster.

The CNMP format used in California is built into the following downloadable Word templates.

These documents require Microsoft Word.

Note:  Right-click the filenames to save the files in the folder indicated below.

Nat_Producer.dot (DOT; 140 KB)
Nat_CNMP.dot (DOT; 190 KB)

In order to use these templates in MMP, paste them into the following file folder - C:\Program Files\USDA\MMP 0.23\Custom. Non-NRCS users' computers may have this in a different location. Browse the computer for - ...\MMP 0.23\custom and paste the templates in that location. It is important that these files be pasted exactly as they appear. The file name can't be changed.

These two templates extract all the nutrient management information from the MMP and put it into a printable format with a table of contents that should be used to assemble all of the required documentation for a CNMP. The CNMP Document is the traditional CNMP with all the documents required except recordkeeping forms. The Producers Nutrient Management Activities Document extracts information out of the CNMP which may be referenced on a regular basis. It also includes the recordkeeping forms. The objective is for the completed CNMP to be located in the dairy office while the condensed Producers Nutrient Management Activities Document is located wherever it can be regularly accessed by the farm manager.

Instructions to create these documents can be found on the last page of the MMP Quick Reference Guide which is also a good general reference for entering data in MMP.

The following document describes the MMP tool.
