JACKSON, Calif., April 7, 2005–The public is invited to attend an open house
at the new offices of the Central Sierra Resource Conservation & Development (CSRC&D)
council on April 21, 2005. The office is located at 235 New York Ranch Road,
Suite D, in Jackson, California. Light refreshments will be served. Call (209)
257-1851 extension 100 for a location map.
The CSRC&D is a non-profit organization established in 1998 to provide
economic and natural resource aid to the people of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras,
northern Mono, and Tuolumne counties. It engages in activities that support
economic development, enhances the standard of living, and increases
conservation of natural resources.
The new office also supports staff from the Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS) and Upper Mokelumne River and Dry Creek Watersheds.
During the open house festivities, the CSRC&D will be celebrating its
achievements. This includes receiving a designation from the U.S. Secretary of
Agriculture to include northern Mono County as part of its service area.
Also during the open house, landowners along the creeks within the Dry
Creek Watershed will have an opportunity to meet with Watershed Coordinator
Duke Foster and CSRC&D council members to begin the dialogue about watershed
restoration and balancing development with resources. The council is looking
for direction and recommendations to balance improved fisheries, flood hazard
reduction, and people in the Dry Creek watershed.
In the coming months the CSRC&D will be promoting youth watershed
stewardship. A contest will be announced during the open house that invites
students from 19 elementary schools in Amador and Calaveras counties to create
a poster based on the theme Using Water Wisely – It’s a Way of Life. The
winning entry receives a cash prize.
