Earth Team Volunteers

They are Making a Difference in California!

What is the Earth Team?

In 1981, Congress authorized the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), formerly the Soil Conservation Service, to accept volunteers to increase soil and water conservation efforts, and to do this by working closely with Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

In California, the Earth Team is a growing volunteer workforce making a difference. The concept of Earth Team includes not only volunteers, but also NRCS staff and Resource Conservation Districts. The mission of the Earth Team is to provide an effective volunteer workforce within NRCS to help people conserve, improve and sustain our resources and environment.

Volunteers can help expand efforts in soil and water conservation. Anyone 14 years or older and interested in saving our precious soil and water can join the Earth Team. Volunteers may work part-time, full-time, outdoors or in an NRCS office.

Walk a Mile In My Boots

The "Walk a Mile in My Boots" initiative is a work-exchange program between agricultural producers and government employees. Exchanges will provide opportunities for producers and NRCS employees to learn more about each other’s lifestyles, issues and operations. For more information, visit the National NRCS Walk a Mile In My Boots Web page.

For more information on the Earth Team Volunteer Program, visit the National NRCS Earth Team Volunteers Web site.
