Engineering Design Projects
This project provides to portions of the
University of Nevada-Reno and City of Reno. Design is underway on an 84-foot
high earthen floodwater retarding structure. Complexities in design include
seismic analysis, sources of fill material, concrete lined emergency spillway,
and visual impact considerations.
This project provides agricultural water to 280 acres on the island of
Saipan in the Pacific Basin. The water supply is stored in a reservoir and
tank utilizing flood flows and water from 3 wells during drought years.
Complexities in design include seismic, high winds from typhoons, and pumping
the fresh water floating on top of the seawater.

Kagman Project Spillway |
Kagman Project - Grade Control Structure |
A diversion channel and outlet will protect the historic whaling town
located on the southwest coast of Maui from flooding and reduce sediment
damage to coral reefs during floods. Design is underway for the second outlet
portion of the project. Design considerations include trapment of sediment,
rock riprap grade control structures and a concrete box culvert beneath
Honoapiilani Highway.
A dry earth dam with saddle dams to protect the
agricultural area near Blythe, CA from flooding. Unique features of this
project include the construction of a 500-foot wide concrete baffled chute
primary spillway and 3,000-foot wide secondary spillway needed to pass the
probable maximum precipitation storm. Construction starts in 2003.
